Today, there are two types of surf, depending on the size of the board used: shortboard and longboard.

Shortboard, also called “short board surf", uses a board between 1.50 and 2.75 meters long. Its charming is the board manoeuvrability and speed, and it usually bears a more aggressive style.

The long board is the most common one. It uses boards of 2.75 meters onwards. The long board was the style used in the 50s and 60s, when the surf appeared in the United States, in the coasts of California.

From the 70s onwards, the boards, taking the longboard as reference, have become slimmer and sharper, increasing the number of types for user's nature and tastes. Between the 80s and 90s, the long board surf (quieter) gave way to a more aggressive and challenging style. Boards began to be specially designed for more speed, resistance and wave penetration.

In the middle of the 90s, the quieter and more fluid long board style came back, placing the long board among the users’ preferred ones again. However, today the variety of boards available on the market is quite wide.
